汉HanQuest

Privacy

Last updated 20 September 2026

The short version: the HanQuest apps have no accounts, no advertising and no analytics. What you learn stays on your device.

What the apps store

Your learning progress — words seen, flashcard scheduling, writing attempts, reading position, your word lists and your settings — is written to a database on your own device. It is not sent anywhere. You can export it to a file and import it again on another device, and that file is yours to move or delete.

The dictionary itself ships inside the app as a read-only file. Looking a word up does not contact a server.

What the apps do not do

When the apps use the network

The apps connect to hanquest.com to download content you ask for, such as a story from the reader's store or a content update. Those requests carry what any web request carries — your device's IP address and the file being asked for — and nothing about your progress or your identity goes with them.

Voice search, where offered, hands the audio to the speech recogniser built into your phone. On most Android devices that is a Google service, and it is covered by your device maker's privacy policy rather than this one. HanQuest never receives or stores the audio.

This website

This site sets no cookies and runs no trackers. Its fonts are served from this site rather than a font network, so loading the page tells nobody else that you visited it.

The web server keeps ordinary access logs — IP address, time, the page requested and the browser's user-agent string — which are used to keep the server running and to see that it is not being abused.

If a page here embeds a video, the video is served by YouTube in its no-cookie mode. Nothing is sent to YouTube until you press play; once you do, YouTube's own privacy policy applies to that playback.

Children

The apps are made for people learning Mandarin and are not directed at young children. Because no personal information is collected, nothing is collected from children either.

Your data, and getting rid of it

Since your data never leaves your device, there is nothing for HanQuest to hand over or delete on your behalf. Uninstalling an app removes its stored progress, and exporting first is the way to keep it.

Changes

If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it.
